These crimes spotlight the continual violence that occurs in the city and reminds us all that we need to increase our safety and security. Awareness and preparedness are key for individuals and Albuquerque businesses that attract large amounts of people. Unfortunately, these places also attract people who wish to do harm to others or criminals who what to steal.
The poor economy has caused many of Albuquerque's business, hotels, grocery chains, shopping centers, apartment communities and other locations to scale back on security services. This comes a a bad time as rime seems to be rising and the overall assault rate in Albuquerque is very high. I encourage you to look around the next time you go to a public place and notice the reduced amount of security presence. How does this make you feel?

I have always felt that Albuquerque was a violent and crime-filled town. It's one of the reasons I left for a safer place to raise my children. Hopefully now, people will admit that there is a serious problem to be addressed.
